take me back

to the paradise city where the grass is green and the toes are pretty
oh take me back.
where pits are dug and food, let me qualify, an enormous hunk of meat, is cooked on hot rocks all day long. and it was goooood.
so very very good.

everyone wants it all. and for a split second you'll have it. your new chucks with your jean short-shorts on, say goodbye to the 9-5 shackles, cram into a rental and drive 2.5 hours with good-friends, delicious food and yummier 3 litre jugs of wine.
for some four days of peace. and then as you're turning the corner to finally shower and get the sand out ya... well everything and step back into reality. there's a blip. you can run but you damn well can't hide.
but for real now. i wish i could be back there.

R.A.D. as in research and development not a circa 92's surfers response to "did you like it". Kia Waese has curated one hell of a spot so alluring that any time the doors' are open everyone pair of eyes and legs walking by stops, looks, asks "what is this?"

"I like black, white, brown and grey," says Waese. If you wanna call it minimalism then go ahead but Waese's aesthetic is simply too complex for minimal thought. "Basically," says Waese "I know it when I see it." With a touch of avant-garde and a soupçon of purpose and structure. Don't expect to walk in and see frills and froufrou, lace trim or rainbows—just keep walking.

Waese's m.o. "designers whose attention is devoted to artisanal hand made pieces." M.A+ (Maurizio Amedei), NICO UYTTERHAEGEN, LD TUTTLE and JAS M.B. every piece has been hand-picked by Waese for it's quality, form, function and of course aesthetic appeal. These are pieces that you'll come back 2-3-9 times to fawn over and when you can't take it anymore you close your eyes swipe with the strip facing in and scratch your name on the dotted line. It'll happen so fast you probably wont even remember, but chequings will.

And you don't have to sift through racks it's all there, waiting. Waese wanted to keep the space sparse and minimal "feeling of a gallery." And stay tuned for F/W when the lines Dark Shadow and Collection K are coming...

The gist is: beautiful shoes and bags. period.

Kitsch'n Swell

Kitsch'n Swell
3968 Boul. St-Laurent. Montréal, 514.845.6789

If you identify with rockabilly, love the 50s and can sift through tchotchke for days, this is the spot. Owners Amélie Theriault and her *chum* Richard Goulet buy and curate their haven now going on its second year. "C'est moi et mon chum qui shoppe tout."
And make sure you stop by to check out Susie-Q who's Bettie Page style is too adorbz to miss.
absolutely need these. even if it means breaking my face. brought me back to my fisher-price highlighter yellow extendable rollerskates. i killed them.
doggie friendly. if that's what you're into.

onolennon

the musée de beaux arts concluded it's exhibit of yoko ono and john lennon's imagine exhibit on sunday. désolé if you didn't make it just imagine how incredible it was. each room used installation, video, music, it seemed like the gallery was alive. a beautiful repose for someone who's running away, even for an instant, the reminder to dream and take it in stride.

this room was shocking. from floor to the highest-reachable-point was stamped imagine peace.
sometimes feeling really small puts everything into perspective. it's not all me, it's all us. my wants, needs, dreams and desires are no more or no less amongst all these pleas. i stamped my imagine, i wrote my love and let it all go.
funny thing is peace is a relative term too. peace of mind exists in a vacuum and when you get to the train only to find your monster staring at you, following you into other provinces what do you do? you take a deep breath, call a friend, and then flesh out your notes for your piece, blindly stare out the window, and read a book about someone else's misery.
et finalement il faut laisser tout dans le passé, car ca vaut rien maintenant.

Antique St. Laurent

shmorgasborg of antiques, crammed, piled, stacked, heaped, jammed, placed, stuffed, filled, congested, choked, filed, backed up, saturated, rammed, packed to the gills.
And if you're looking at letters this is what the man will say: "if you were in film you'd understand."
Oh really?!?! crackpot.

Montréal Sommaire

interview, chit chatting about fashion, design, international vs canadian, coffee, hipsterism, industry, business, motivation and hopes
stay tuned for the grande reveal. it's good. it's great. très interesting.
a city with pabst blue ribbon vending machine est fantastique! don't be greedy, ain't much more you can hope for really.
and it's NOT a trip to Montréal without smoked meat, cherry coke, yellow plastic mustard and dill pickles. schwartz is a french kiss and a hug on the inside.
sunday jerry lee lewis hair. this is what happens when you have a curly mullet (mullet bouclé)—no good comes from it.
just saying my peace on the wishing tree, Yoko's single most interesting piece, selon moi.
